Self
(A mixed-media serie of analogue film (35 mm to 4x5 inch), polaroid, polaroid sx70, scans and digital photography).
When photography became part of my life, it not only became a way of earning a living but also a way of life. Essential part of my life.
When I wanted to explore the influence of light, color, composition, film, I was always there, always available. And just by being there, being the model for that exploration, therefore off guard, just doing what I had to do, the picture sometimes transformed into a portrait.
Exploring the outside, the inside was revealed.
But photography meant also a way of expressing myself, exploring my being and how this was expressed on film. A way of looking at myself. (both physically as mentally). How this being would present itself, this body present itself, to the world through this medium. (Like watching yourself in a mirror when feeling unobserved).
And doing this on a regular base, unintentionally a timeline has been emerged. A timeline of my life as a person, as a photographer.
This timeline is emphasized by not just digitising the analogue material but by photographing (part of)the negatives again, scanning (part of) contactsheets and combining images (past and present in one image).
A way of contemplating who I was, who I am.
