sculptured by nature

With our (twisted) strive for perfection in our society we tend to forget, these imperfections make who we are: human and unique. To me, these imperfections, this uniqueness, is where our beauty lies and what touches me.

Our bodies make up more than two thirds of our existence, and give rise to our sense of personality. Apart from our face, it is our body that defines the way in which we appear, and are looked at and eventually received by others. Despite hiding it most of the time — out of necessity: cold, rain, and in our society also out of shame, prudence — this body defines how we feel about ourselves. By photographing it, and thus exploring it, I hope to allocate and reveal -at least- a part of one's personality.

Looking at it unprejudiced and freely, it becomes -in a different way- autonomous, like a sculpture formed by nature. Like a rock it is exposed to the elements, such as wind, sunshine and rain, and shaped by nature, food, the ability to move, life itself.

This way I wish to free it from preconceived notions.
